You may have read a previous post about our terrible staining issues. Well, that's all in the past. As of yesterday evening, we applied (hopefully) our last coat of anything to the floor.
The results:
If you read my last post regarding my Charter Communications experience, you'd know I was anything but happy. Well, today I received an interesting comment on that post.
From Umatter2Charter:
Joy and I purchased our first home!
Apparently I'm not one for writing in chronological order, as I've already written two articles about the move (here and here), but thought that it needed an official announcement on here. We purchase our first home at the beginning of August, and as of yesterday, are fully moved in (whereby "moved in", I mean all of our stuff is here, not necessarily put in place).
In the process of moving, I've had to turn off utilities from the apartment and turn them on at the new house. For the most part, it's been pain free. However, with our internet/cable service, I had to set it up as a transfer because I can't afford to have a gap in service (unless it's over a weekend). I called Charter to schedule my transfer to occur this past Tuesday, and thought everything was set to go. I was wrong.
I had called to schedule the transfer last Saturday. I spoke with a very nice service representative who got me setup in going in 15 minutes. He even pointed out that my current package was about to expire, and recommended I update to the HD package for a $10 difference (which I did). He got the transfer all setup for the last day in our apartment, Tuesday, so that we would only be out of an internet connection for a couple of hours (I work remotely, so an internet connection is vital).
For the last couple of weeks, Joy and I have been moving into our new home. Along with the move, we've decided to do our first home-improvement project: restoring wood flooring. Let me just say this off the bat: I never want to do it again unless I'm getting paid.
The flooring in the living room and office (adjacent rooms) was carpeted when we bought the place. The carpet looked fairly old, and either needed to be cleaned or replaced. To avoid that all together, we decided that the first thing we wanted to do was to rip remove the carpet and replace it with hard-flooring.
If you haven't noticed, I've been working in the Tumblr world as of late. For the most part, I've found it to be an excellent microblogging platform. However, I have one major gripe.
Until recently, Tumblr didn't support comments (natively). They've implemented them as what they call "replies". I think there has to be a question in your post for you to enable replies (at least, that's what makes the "Allow Replies" checkbox appear). Even then, replies are limited to 250 characters.
Goodwill is quite the interesting place: tons of unwanted "junk" from other people become treasure to others. Every once-and-again I'll wander through a Goodwill to see what's going down (normally because Joy wants to find stuff), and I'll come across some interesting things. This time, it was in the Soo.
An ancient sewing machine:
As I mentioned in a previous post, Joy has been out of town for the last few days. To occupy my time, I've been trying to come up with small projects. Sunday's project: create a panorama of the breakwall at Stearn's Park/Beach.
Here's the end result (Large Preview):
Over the past few months, I've been trying to generate more content. In fact, I've done a lot of work to make sure my site generates a good amount of content every week. I've added streams, started to post photos from my travels around town and elsewhere, written articles about current topics, given helpful tips in many of my interest areas, and I still can't get any love from Google.
Tell me what's wrong with this picture:
